The VINTAGE U.K. GREENBACK CLONE came about when I took an old Vintage Celestion Greenback out of an early Marshall 12" Quad cabinet and brought it to Australian loudspeaker manufacturer Lorantz.
What I wanted was a replacement speaker that would tonally sound as close as possible to the Celestion Vintage Greenback. After testing and plotting the old Greenback, Lorantz came back to me saying that they could produce a speaker to these specifications. The result is a range of speakers that possess the true vintage warmth and fullness of the old Celestions but with superior efficiency. This results in a louder volume level for the same input power.
They identically follow the frequency plot of the original Greenback to within 2dB!!!

LORANTZ "P" SERIES LOUDSPEAKERS VINTAGE GREENBACK CLONE - Guitar Models
These models sound (within 2dB) exactly like the real vintage Celestion Greenbacks.
They are available in both 10” & 12” sizes, in 30, 50 & 75 Watt power ratings at 8 or 16ohm.
The 10” Model C256P series has a 120mm ferrite magnet and is available in 30, 50, 75 watt.
The 12” Model C304P series has a 120mm ferrite magnet and is available in 30, 50, 75 watt.

The sonic quality of the 30W, 50W and 75W are similar, as these models employ similar cone tooling and cone pulps.
The 30W model is the brightest of the range - it employs the lightest voice coil, wound on a paper bobbin.
The paper bobbin has advantages and disadvantages. The paper bobbin is weaker and allows the cone to breakup more than the stronger bobbins like fiberglass and Kapton. The 50W model is very similar to the 30W except the paper voice coil bobbin has been replaced with fiberglass, higher power rating and environmentally more reliable than paper. The cone body is also slightly heavier thus requiring more power for breakup and crunch.
The 75W model employs a heavier cone body and again requires more power to breakup, also has a longer coil winding so it is cleaner and the tone is slightly warmer due to the heavier coil and cone body. The coil is wound on a high temperature plastic bobbin material called Kapton. The sonic signature of loudspeakers is primarily based on the physical cone shape and material properties.

LORANTZ "U" SERIES LOUDSPEAKERS REISSUE GREENBACK CLONE - Bass, P.A & Multi-Purpose Models
The principle difference between the "P" and the "U" models is the magnet size. The increased magnet size has the following sonic benefits:
- The U model is louder
- The bass response in the U range is tighter
- The mids appear louder in relation to the tightness of the bass
- The voice coil follows the electrical signal more closely due to the stronger magnet force, making the tone more 'detailed'
Basically, these models sound more like Celestion’s modern re-issue of the Vintage Greenback.
